I’m Jean Stites and I’ve been teaching the piano for over fifty years.
I have a BA in Music from SUNY Binghamton.
When I was thirteen my neighbor asked me to show her son a thing or two, and I’ve been at it ever since.
Lucky for me, when the pandemic forced me out of my studio and into the land of Zoom, there turned out to be very little difference if the technology’s working properly; while most people actually love the convenience of being home and the comfort of learning at their own, familiar instrument.
I hope you’ll join us!
And if you do, the first question I’ll be asking will be: What’s your favorite song?
I teach anyone who wants to play, and try to primarily focus on whatever kind of music they love.
Of course, especially with children, I also focus on theory and exposure to a wide variety of styles and technical situations.
I don’t use method books. I draw on all the teaching pieces I’ve collected over the years to give each student the individualized instruction I believe private lessons are meant to provide.
My job is to help you learn what you need to know to have fun.
Music is a language and it’s meant to foster communication, but its principal purpose and pleasure is to feed your soul.
Thanks!
